Residents of exempt supported accommodation must apply for housing benefit to help with rent costs in full UC service areas.  As I understand, floating support provided for (or on behalf of) a landlord can bestow exempt status on accommodation, depending on the exact circumstances.

Under a housing first model a client may have a tenancy with the landlord, with floating support provided by another provider with a stand alone contract with the local authority.  It seems this would not satisfy the requirement for support to be provided for (or on behalf of) the landlord.

I wondered if any has experience of applying or supporting benefit claims in a housing first project.  I’d be interested to know if the arrangements between local authority, landlord and support provider could make a difference.  If accommodation is made available because of the presence of floating support, could it be argued this is being provided on behalf of the landlord?
