Hi all!

Claimant has moved boroughs and needs to claim UC. Her next 4 weekly TC payment is due next week and she is asking if she should delay her UC claim until after she has received this payment.

Have advised her that there is very little scope for backdating of UC and so she should claim asap but she is worried about being left with no money.

If she makes a claim now and her TC claim is shut down, they should still make a payment up to the date the claim stops shouldn’t they? So she would get a payment for 3 weeks worth of TCs to try and get by on whilst UC is processed?

Thanks!!!!

Sam

Once HMRC has been informed of UC claim they will begin in year finalisation (reg 12A UC (Transitional Provisions) Regs 2014).

The process is explained here: https://revenuebenefits.org.uk/universal-credit/guidance/stopping-tax-credits/finalising-tax-credit-claims/
