In one of the more quirky takes on an on-going investigation around UC, the Work and Pensions Committee have announced:

What do a smoothie-maker, a farmer and a clown have in common?

It’s no joke. They’re all self-employed, which means they are all potentially hit with a significant loss of income under Universal Credit compared to an employed person earning exactly the same.

On Wednesday we’re hearing from those three, plus the NFU and entrepreneur’s groups, on the way the realities of self-employment interact with UC’s “Minimum Income Floor” to penalise self-employed people who have irregular income—watch our short animation showing how.

Sessions take place on Wednesday 17 January, more here How does self-employment effect Universal Credit?

Should be interesting. Pity about the mix-up between Affect and Effect. Yes I am a grammar pedant. And not ashamed of it.

Good spot, didn’t notice that.
