With the Justice Secretary and Lord Chancellor David Lidington having got a new job at the Cabinet Office today .... it means that there will have been been 6 justice secretaries in less than 8 years -

- Ken Clarke (2 years 4 months)
- Chris Grayling (2 years 8 months)
- Michael Gove (1 year 4 months)
- Liz Truss (11 months)
- David Lidington (6 months).

”...because of our welfare-to-work programme, 30 million people are in jobs today….”

”.. will say it again, although I heard no positive sounds from the Labour Benches before: there are 30 million people in work…”

“I will say this again because the Opposition still have not acknowledged it. Thirty million people are in jobs today.

“In the UK, it is right to say that more people are visiting food banks, as we would expect.

It’s a shame we can’t change government as easy as she can change her cabinet.

They come and they go (more frequently than ESA/PIP re-assessements) having achieved next to nothing (successfully) - just like ‘welfare (justice / education etc.) reform’ - maybe that’s no coincidence?

Labour has called on Theresa May to rethink the appointment of Esther McVey as work and pensions secretary because McVey was a director of a demolition company served with health and safety prohibition notices, an area covered by her department.

Acerbic article from Frances Ryan on the appointment of Esther McVey as SoS for W&P.

I’ve spoken to many disabled people who are frightened by McVey’s appointment. That might be hard to understand if you are healthy or on a comfortable wage, but when you rely on social security to eat and pay rent, the DWP minister has power over you. For the families at the sharp end of austerity, McVey represents skipping dinner to pay the bedroom tax or becoming suicidal after losing benefits.

The new work and pensions secretary is an insult to disabled people
