Dear DWP Spokespersons,

Could you please, PLEASE find something to say when you face criticism of UC other than:

“We are rolling out Universal Credit in a gradual, safe and secure way and the majority of people are managing their budgets well…[t]he best way to help people improve their lives is to help them into work, and under Universal Credit people are moving into work faster and staying in work longer than under the old system.”

You have used this hoary old beast yet again to counter calls for the roll-out to be slowed down.

It doesn’t answer the points raised and isn’t really true.

At least we can be grateful that this variant on your usual shtick didn’t employ the word ‘transformative’.

For a modest fee, I will even write you a nice new script. But please, PLEASE put the old one away.
