i thought this might be of use where people are struggling to get info from DWP (or, perhaps more to the point, HMRC) in their tribunal cases:

commentary:
http://www.civillitigationbrief.com/2017/08/03/complying-with-directions-in-the-first-tier-tribunal-it-can-be-a-taxing-matter-public-bodies-should-live-up-to-the-standards-expected-in-the-conduct-of-litigation/

actual case report:
http://www.bailii.org/uk/cases/UKSC/2017/55.html

Here, HMRC had failed to comply with a tribunal direction in a VAT case, and ended up debarred.  HMRC appealed to the UT, the CofA and, ultimately, to the SC - and failed.  they remain debarred

I am aware that many UT judges have been “rolling their eyes” metaphorically speaking, and being quite scathing, in particular in Tax Credit Appeals where HMRC are being wholly useless in providing anything approaching proper submissions/evidence

so this case should assist you all and, hopefully, your clients…..
