I was wondering how simple it is to check if the amount includes the 60% basic state pension amount based on husbands contributions for those women with a lower pension in their own right?

If you’re talking about Vital that DWP corrects past underpayments of state pension and implements changes to prevent similar problems in future, says National Audit Office” then our current experience is it’s virtually impossible but DWP say they will be contacting people affected and making necessary changes.

We’ve done a piece on it as well State Pension underpayment errors”

We ran an awareness raising campaign in Durham and around 130 women phoned us. Whilst unable to advise whether women were being underpaid their pension, we were able to advise anyone receiving less than £82.45pw (60% of husband’s basic) who was a married woman or widow or divorced that they should definitely contact Pensions Service as there was a good chance they were being underpaid.  Although some had been receiving Pension Credit (which would be offset against any arrears), some had not as their income and capital were over means-tested benefits so could expect to receive arrears.
