Hello. Does anyone have any experience of advising someone after being discharged from hospital on S117 aftercare? Currently staying in a care home setting,  receiving UC with LCWRA. I am unsure on housing costs just now (not my client and caseworker unavailable).
I’m struggling to find a clear answer to what will happen after 6 months.
Thank you in advance

I’m not sure that I fully understand your question but….

I think that caselaw on S117 aftercare and housing costs generally rules out paying for standard housing (ie a person’s normal home). Housing is a universal human need and not particular to mental health, so does not come within its orbit. S117 can potentially pay for a care home or other specialised accomodation.

See https://www.bevanbrittan.com/insights/articles/2017/section-117-aftercare-services-article-3-accommodation/ for some discussion of this.

If the 6 months you refer to is the UC temporary absence rules, I don’t know of any way around that.

The factsheet at https://www.rethink.org/advice-and-information/rights-restrictions/mental-health-laws/section-117-aftercare/ gives some info and links to further case law.
