War Pensioners and Constant Attendance Allowance
Are their any experts on here re the above topic, in 25 plus years of giving advice I have never dealt with a War Pensioner, and even Veterans UK are struggling with this one. ????
74 year old, on war Pension with following additions:-
War disablement pension
War Pensioners Mobility Supplement
Comforts allowance
Invalidity Allowance
Unemployability Supplement
Age Allowance (Disability Pension)
Has care needs so can he claim Constant AA? rather than regular AA will it affect anything on his WP? and he also isn’t getting a SRP as his wife told him not to give up his war pension as he would be significantly worse off? ( W Pension is £376 pw)
Thank you in advance
Maybe just advise him to get a SRP forecast from DWP to show him how much he’s standing to lose (cos I can’t believe he won’t) so at least you can reassure him on that.
On the CAA/AA issue, this page to me suggests he should be able to claim CAA if he get’s 80% of War Disablement Pension https://www.gov.uk/constant-attendance-allowance/eligibility
The rules on that aspect are beyond me for the moment https://www.gov.uk/guidance/war-pension-scheme-wps
It seems to me from reading various webpages that Veterans UK are supposed to manage eligibility for the scheme and payments so maybe go back to them and let us know what they say?
