Sorry not my area of expertise.

1) If a WTC claimant is off sick from work for c 6 months, does this generate an overpayment of WTC?

2) If a WTC claimant is off sick from work for c 6 months and furloughed does this generate an overpayment of WTC?

If you get SSP or NI credits for being incapable of work then you are treated as being in full-time paid work (provided you met the conditions for full-time paid work for WTC just before) for up to 28 weeks so no overpayment - possibly an underpayment if income was reduced - https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2002/2005/regulation/6

Similarly, while on furlough you get count as working the same hours that you would be normally so again no overpayment - https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2020/534/made
