The DWP has developed a new online ID verification process, using Government Gateway rather than Verify. It is currently being rolled out as part of Universal Credit. Within a couple of weeks it should be part of all new claims. The service is called ‘Confirm Your Identity’.

We have been contacted by Laurence Piercy, User Researcher at DWP. He would like to make contact with a range of advice organisations with the goal of creating a line of contact for advisers to highlight any issues with Confirm Your Identity.

Do you have any feedback about the new service?

This might include things like:
- The wording used and whether or not users understand it
- Parts of the page – like hyperlinks, or buttons - which are consistently misunderstood by users
- The kinds of ID users have access to, and whether this prevents them from confirming their ID online
- Missing elements of the design which conflict with how advisers work with claimants

Please send your feedback to Laurence Piercy, User Researcher: Identity & Trust Services at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

I’ve been looking online to see if there are any links to Confirm Your Identity - the only things I can find are the Government Gateway service on the HMRC website but nothing labelled CYI.

Does anyone else have any other information?  is it just the Government Gateway under a new name?

Bump

Whatever happened to this service? Only last week a reliable source did an ID check via the Post Office with Digidentity as the other option.

Looking at the guidance it still says to do it the old way.

Spotted this last week:

Cabinet Office minister Michael Gove last week wrote to departments about the “development of a single sign-on and identity assurance system”. It is not clear when the system will be available, but Gove said in his letter that “all public-facing central government services should migrate onto it and legacy systems will be phased out” ... Gove said in his letter that “active participation” from departments is “a precondition for the programme’s success”.

More than £200m has been spent on Verify, plus hundreds of millions more on other government digital identity systems, such as HMRC’s Government Gateway, the DWP’s Confirm Your Identity – which sits at the heart of Universal Credit – and NHS Login.

But Gove said the new system will take precedence. “Departments must expeditiously migrate their services and users to this system and must not progress any work on separate, conflicting solutions for identity and attribute verification or single customer accounts and sign-ins,” he told departments.
