HMCTS ‘reject’ PIP appeal - you used the wrong appeal form
Client made a PIP appeal but it appears used an SSCS1 rather than SSCS1 PIP/ESA/UC. After some months she received a notice from HMCTS stating her appeal had not been accepted as she had used the wrong form. Client then calls us. We advised to email a complaint to HMCTS. Same day client phones back to say HMCTS had responded to her complaint and accepted the appeal!
We are all used to HMCTS basic errors but that (almost) takes the biscuit!
All version of SSCS1 comply with the requirements of Rule 22 if properly completed. Ahhhhhh!

see https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/appeal-a-social-security-benefits-decision-form-sscs1. That there are a separate version of SSCS1 for PIP/ESA/UC is purely for the administrative convenience of HMCTS. Even the old GL24, a letter or a table of stone meets the requirements of the Rules - its just HMCTS staff don’t understand the Rule!
