NINO and CTR

Being lazy, but thought it was an interesting question.

Is there any statutory requirement to state a NINO when applying for Council Tax Reduction/Support?

I don’t think it is a “benefit” for the purposes of s1 SSAA, but is the requirement introduced in some other way?

Many local schemes make it a requirement to provide the claimant’s NINO.

The default scheme also included it as a requirement. Some local schemes I’ve seen have copied that part from the default scheme, but not realised, and have inserted the requirement a second time as well!

Thanks Charles - yes having bothered to check the default scheme and the scheme of the authority I am looking at (which is a copy-paste of the default scheme), I can see para 113 includes a NINO requirement as well as incorporating two of the exceptions to that requirement from reg 4 HB Regs.
