Hi,

A client has approached us to query a payment on his HB assessment, from July to date stated as ‘Independent Living VEP payment of £304.70’

Anybody know what this is?

Cheers

Michael

VEP in HB circles usually refers to HMRC data matching (“Verification of Earnings and Pensions”), I suspect what might have happened here is that someone receiving funding from the ILF is using it to pay a helper/carer and they have set up some kind of payroll arrangement, possibly using a payroll agency.  The HB claimant here will be the carer and the payment will be treated as earnings.

Thank you for that, useful to know.

In this case we now know that it is an undeclared pension - but HB could not explain why ‘independent living’ was stated on the DN.

Thanks again and best wishes
