PIP 2 no longer available to apply digitally

Since Covid-19 restrictions have started we have been allowed by the DWP to have the PIP2 claim form emailed to the claimant. We have been informed by DWP today that applying digitally has now ended as it was just a trial. Has anyone else had this experience and is this advice correct from the DWP? I am very concerned if this is the case as it appears more barriers are being put up to claim PIP particularly in light of the reduced numbers of people applying for PIP.

My understanding is that you were one of the privileged few who were part of said trial. See post #8 in https://www.rightsnet.org.uk/forums/viewthread/15759/ though. The online PIP 2 is certainly still available at https://www.apply-for-pip.dwp.gov.uk/form-and-help-information

Almost all our recent PIP claimants have been receiving PIP1003 questionnaires.  Does anybody know the difference between a PIP2 and a PIP1003 form?

As far as I am aware a PIP 1003 is a PIP 2 but the version you fill in after your initial PIP 2. Different number to make it clear that it’s not a first claim or a conversion.

I’m puzzled, having just completed a PIP1003 with a client for whom this was definitely her first ever claim for PIP.

The PIP1 is the claim form which is rarely completed clerically. The PIP2 is the “how your disability affects you” form which is sometimes erroneously described as a claim form.

I don’t think that the normal PIP2 with the barcode on it has ever had PIP2 written on it, but the covering letter is marked “PIP.1003”. I have one of them in front of me from 2017. I think the name PIP2 has just stuck

Then the AR1 for reviews is emblazoned with “AR1” on every page…

I’m not sure any of this matters…

A client of mine got an email with the link to the online PIP2 and a link to upload it and other relevant documents where available. I hope this becomes the norm if not it seems like a lot of useful work to throw down the drain…...but then this is the DWP we are talking about

They can’t have people just claiming online whenever they fancy it!!!!!! It would make a mockery of all that investment in gatekeeping and fobbing would-be claimants off.

Just like it was in DLA times, in fact. (claim packs in CABs and libraries, etc).

Update on digital PIP applications ‘by end of the year’ in written answer from Justin Tomlinson today -

We are focused on transforming the PIP claimant journey overall to provide a more streamlined and user-friendly approach. We are committed to providing a digital channel - “PIP Apply” - to widen claimants’ choices on how to make a new claim for PIP. Using the digital channel is optional and we will ensure we provide effective alternatives for those who are unable or prefer not to use our online services. We are aiming to provide this service by the end of the year.
