The Early Warning System has just picked up a case without an automatic PIP extension.

The claimant submitted their renewal form in early March for a PIP claim due to expire end of July. They’re concerned that their SDP will stop until such time as another PIP award is made. Recent text message suggests they are awaiting an assessment to be scheduled.

Appears that DWP’s extension of awards during lockdown has come to an end? Are you seeing this too?

Client with fixed term award which was due to expire at the end of August.  In February, she’d been invited to make a fresh claim, which we started, but we couldn’t complete the PIP2 before lockdown as she couldn’t attend the appointment (was hospital-tested and positive.)
She’s not heard anything else so I called PIP last week, explained her difficulties,  and that we are still working from home and don’t know yet whether/when that will change. They’ve granted a 6 month extension (but would like the questionnaire back in September!).
A few clients contacted early on and said they’d been given extensions, but I’ve not heard from anyone else in the last few weeks.

Just to chuck another issue into the rapidly filling melting pot, has anyone been having difficulties with blue badge and motability schemes over this? We have seen a few cases recently where other organisations such as blue badge departments have been insisting on seeing confirmation of the “automatic” extensions when the award has passed its original end date. PIP will issue letters in these cases (albeit somewhat reluctantly) but it is not being done automatically.

Yes! We’ve had a couple of these in the EWS. Would be interested to hear more and identify whether different LAs have different approaches to this.

This client has since had their award extended to January 2021, so PIP extensions still in place for timebeing.

Hiya
PIP helpline say they are sending out extension letters the day before the award ends.
PIP helpline say this may well cause issues with linked CA awards, as CA may not know about PIP extension and move to cancel CA award, advising clients to call CA.

I thought also possibly issues with SDPs?

Just FYI had first one of these .. my client’s PIP award was extended to 27/01/2021 after initial end date of 27/07/20, ESA last week did not pay her SDP and client had the good sense to ring ESA and do the IS10 over the phone to get it put back in again. Not all clients will know to do this

What is the latest re extension of PIP planned reviews and reassessments?

We’ve had 5 recent client’s with awards due to end, some are getting letters that their award has been extended by 6 months followed up by phone calls saying they still have to complete and send the forms?
