I have a client who has received 3 months self employed grant from hmcts
as a result he has received a hb overpayment letter
im seeing him later. Does the grant retrospectively cover 3 months income in relation to hb, or should it only be considered when received, like UC?
thanks

I would suggest, neither.  It’s self employed income and treated like the irregular income that often comes with self-employment.  That means averaging all income over an appropriate period.  Given the irregular and seasonal nature of much self-employment, I’d argue for including it over a 12 month period, of current circumstances.  The next tranche of SEISS is specificallly described as not being for any particular period.
