UC during closure order

We have a property that is subject to a police closure order and the tenant is not able to return for at least 3 months. However, it is likely that the tenant will be terminating their tenancy before the 3 months are up. They have been claiming Universal credit housing costs.

Are there any special considerations regarding the closure order or would it just be temporary absence rules for the housing costs in the meantime? If there isn’t an intention to return to the property, would those rules even apply?

The normal rules for temporary absence apply including the requirement that the claimant intends to return. There aren’t any special rules for closure orders.

Thanks, best for them to give notice ASAP then to minimise what they owe.
