Advance Payment only offering Standard Allowance amount?

Hi all

Came across a client with housing costs but when he was offered an advance by his work coach was told he could only claim a maximum of about £409 - the standard allowance amount. Thought it might just be a mistake or isolated incident but another adviser mentioned something similar and I haven’t been able to find more information on it. Worried this might be a method of them clamping down on fraudulent advance claims. Has anyone come across a similar issue?

Haven’t heard of any changes.

Has he actually requested an advance and gotten an offer, or was this just info from his WC?

Under the normal rules he can get up to 100% of his estimated award. He might have reported circumstances wrong, or DWP may have identified issues with his HC (that would make him ineligible f.ex.).

I’ve seen a few claims where when a claimant requests an advance payment immediately, UC pays more than he’s entitled to because they haven’t finished the calculations/missing info. Presumably that works both ways.
