Time taken for PIP MR’s

I have had 2 cases recently where the client has been waiting 12 weeks for a PIP MR decision. The PIP answer machine states that MR’s take 10 weeks on average. However, in both cases when I have spoken to PIP it seems that the 10 weeks is counted from the date they register or log the MR, which can be much later than the date they receive it. I pointed out to PIP that the answer machine message is misleading. Just wondering if anyone else has come across this?

That is exactly the same information I was provided on the phone by DWP, last week.
In my client’s case it took them one month to register his MR; the 10 weeks period starts after the MR has been registered.

Me too.  We’ve not registered it yet but will register it now and it’ll be 8 - 10 further weeks.  Sent in at the end of July.

It took nearly a year to get a decision on the application so I’m not holding my breath…..

Many thanks for the replies. This is clearly the current procedure for PIP MR’s but means that the PIP voicemail message saying 10 weeks is completely misleading. Does anyone know if anything can be done about this at a higher level?

I’ll send an email up via stakeholder forum to see if anything can be done

Daphne, have you had any feedback on this?

Not PIP but I have a client who is waiting an MR on decision to refuse Carer’s Allowance and has been told by DWP that it will ‘take ages’ and that it would be better for them to make a new application!
