Has anyone had any joy with getting a UC overpayment reduced or waived?

I’ve read all the guidance etc and it looks like any chance of this happening is very slim but was hoping there may be something I could use or do?

Quick summary - claimants didn’t have the benefit cap applied from their first payment, I raised this on 1 July - first payment was due 6 July told payment couldn’t be amended so claimants overpaid.  UC recalculated award but didn’t take the child benefit into account so wrong again - journal note added on 15/7 saying still not right, nothing done payment statement appears and again second payment due on 6 August hasn’t had child benefit taken into account when calculating benefit cap.  another journal note added on 2/8 saying payment is wrong, claimants get overpaid again on 6 Aug and finally award is amended correctly on 9 August by which time they have been overpaid over two months totalling approx. £900.

any advice appreciated.

Maybe try Compensation for poor service: staff guide

Situation sounds utterly absurd.

MP

This is the reason there should be rules governing when an overpayment can be recovered.

I was thinking MP may be the best route - I’ll have a look at your link too Paul, thanks.
