Client has just been granted refugee status and is a single adult with no health problems who does not speak English. Interpreter says cl has been told to make a UC claim. He is still however in asylum-seeker’s accommodation until eviction on 23/8/19 and in receipt of asylum support. Does he wait until the 23rd to make the UC claim?
Many thanks

My understanding is that he can claim straightaway, as although asylum support received in the AP will count as income, it is much less than UC, so it gets the claim already up and running.

Refugees and Asylum Seekers UC guidance from House of Commons deposited papers also includes reference to entitlement overlapping with support.

I’m not really sure about how the asylum support works itself (i.e. does this end early if UC claimed?) but it is not listed at reg 66 so I think it falls to be disregarded when calculating UC
