Benefits in Jersey
Does anyone know if benefit regulations in Jersey are the same as England or Northern Ireland?
A bit different ....

Thanks Jon. I can’t see anything in there with regards to capital disregards. I take it they would be the same in that case?
Sorry I don’t know, I’ve never had to look into that, but I wouldn’t assume it’s necessarily the same. E.g. the savings thresholds are different:

I sort of can’t believe this is how I’m starting my day.
Jersey has its own legal system and it can’t be assumed that the rules are the same. For the purposes of Income Support in Jersey, the capital disregards are set out in paragraph 2 of Schedule 2 of the Income Support (General Provisions) (Jersey) Order 2008.

It can be seen that whilst there are familiar aspects, the rules are pretty different - including e.g. potentially disregarding up to £22,716 of a person’s capital altogether.
I’d suggest talking to someone who actually knows about this stuff if it is important.
Jersey is NOT part of the UK, and UK laws do NOT apply
wholly different jurisdiction
what Elliot said, basically - think you need to refer any such potential client to someone in Jersey who will know…..
but a starter for 10: https://www.gov.je/LifeEvents/MovingToJersey/LivingInJersey/Pages/Benefits.aspx

From experience- ringing the Jersey Social security office is worth a shot. They are extremely helpful (and is a real shock compared to our DWP).
Thank you for all the replies they’ve been very helpful. I think a referral to a higher power is in order.
