PIP MRs

I’ve just been advised by someone on the PIP helpline that mandatory reconsiderations have to be registered by phone and any letters sent are treated as further information and not as the mandatory reconsideration request that it actually is.

Anyone else heard of this?

I posted an MR request at the end of November 2018 which was registered as an MR at the beginning of February 2019!!  And now we’ve been told the waiting time for reconsideration is 12 weeks from registration which is double what the phone message says.  So will be 5 months to get a decision.  Starting to despair here…...

Gatekeeper memo anyone?

Written requests for MRs not being received

All staff must be aware that written requests for an MR could be received and all correspondence should be checked to ensure MR requests are picked up as soon as possible on receipt by DWP.

Thanks so much Paul.  Will refer to this in my complaint.

(Waiting for my job title to change to Professional Complainer.)

Shock! Anyone would think someone was deliberately trying to discourage people from challenging decisions

.gov.uk public website explicitly gives choice of method to make an MR

https://www.gov.uk/mandatory-reconsideration/how-to-ask-for-mandatory-reconsideration

“Contact the benefits office that gave you the decision. You can contact them:
by phone
by letter
by filling in and returning a form
The contact details are on your decision letter.”
