NI Credits

i’ve a client not working (he had a nasty accident at work, not fully recovered), but not on either ESA or JSA (they told him he was fit for work, and then sanctioned him for missing a signing on appointment (i do keep telling him to get advice to appeal but I think he’s disheartened by the whole thing….))

anyway, he’s just asked me about NI Credits given he’s not working and not on benefits.  I have looked it up and the gov.uk guide says that he can go to his local jobcentre and apply to get credits even if he’s not on benefits

is it really that simple?  Current state of the DWP, i have to think not!

If he doesn’t appeal the decision that he doesn’t have LCW, then he can only be entitled to credits for unemployment. Those credits are not given to those entitled to JSA but have it reduced or nilled due to a sanction.
