UN investigation into extreme poverty and human rights
During the UN Special Rapporteur on Extreme Poverty and Human Rights Professor Philip Alston’s UK mission from 5 to 16 November he will be talking at a free discussion event on 13 November (registration is required)....
In addition to outlining the reasons for his visit to the UK and the scope of his mandate, Professor Alston will discuss some of the issues and challenges that he is examining as part of his mission, including austerity, welfare reform, the role of new technologies, child poverty and Brexit.
The event will also feature short introductory interventions from speakers working on social injustice and poverty in the UK.
The talk will be followed by an open discussion. It should be noted that the Special Rapporteur cannot discuss his conclusions while the visit is ongoing.
