Hi all,

I have a client who has been claiming PIP- they have now all of a sudden asked for a brith certificate, passport, or driver’s license. He does not have any of them- has paranoid schizophrenia and is originally from Grenada- and does not have a british passport.

Is there any way the DWP can complete a home visit/ or arrange an appointment to verify his ID by other means? He lives in supported accommodation. Any other similar cases?

Thanks.

Hi UB40worker

As you’re no doubt aware, this sounds a lot like a Windrush scandal case for Commonwealth citizens so this guidance should be helpful -

Even though it only specifically applies to means-tested benefits, the principles should give them food for thought about threatening to suspend payment.

May also need immigration advice of course see https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/undocumented-commonwealth-citizens-resident-in-the-uk
