Hi, my client was in receipt of working and child tax credit. Therefore she qualified for free prescriptions, dental etc. However, just before year end she came into a small inheritance that meant she was overpaid TC’s. My questions is will she have to repay costs incurred through prescriptions, dental etc. My own view is that as she qualified at the time, it doesn’t have to be repaid but I can’t find any helpful guidance.

Any help appreciated.

Are you sure about this?
It would be have to be a hefty inheritance to affect Tax Credits, given that capital is disregarded and the first £300pa interest from capital is disregarded.

It was an investment with a large chargeable gain that meant they did not qualify and ended up with an overpayment.

Has anyone come across this situation before?

We’ve never heard of anyone being asked to repay.
