HB making deduction for support previously paid for by Supporting People
The council have stopped paying the support element in one of the sheltered blocks. The council say its due to shortage of funds. There has been no change in the support provided - a scheme manager who assists residents on day to day matters, but no personal care.
Its charitable sheltered housing where the charity provides the support, so ‘Exempt’ accommodation.
The rent is now one amount, with no separate support charge but housing benefit has deducted an amount equivalent to the old support charge (about £15 pw.) If the rent had not been split originally, then its likely that HB would have covered it in full.
Would be grateful for any advice before I query with HB.

- SP paid for support
- support is not eligible for HB
- so if the same activities that were funded by SP are now funded by the rent, there is a de facto ineligible service charge.
That is a very simple answer to a complicated question though ...
