Split payment APAs cannot be reversed without review with both claimants

Written answer yesterday confirms that -

A non-requesting partner cannot reverse a split payment arrangement. The arrangement can be reviewed if the applicant and/or their partner provide further information via their online account, face to face with a Work Coach or over the phone. However, the arrangement will only be reversed if the Secretary of State is satisfied that it is in the best interest of the household.

To help ensure people requesting reviews are acting in the interests of their household, Universal Credit agents will collect as much information as possible from the claimants. This information will include details of the mismanagement of welfare support, its effect on individual members of the household and reasons for no longer making split payments.

just looking for some info on split payments across the forum, does anyone know how a person would request a split payment when they are subject to DV or financial abuse…
are there any set processes within the UC framework for this?
my understanding for anyone fleeing DV have to show that they have reported incidents to police or women’s aid etc
but I’m not sure how this would work in practice for anyone still living with a perpetrator

thank in advance

According to DWP guidance, split payments should be considered where:
- the claimant notifies DWP of financial mismanagement and/or financial abuse
- the claimant notifies DWP that there are domestic violence issues
- the claimant cannot or will not budget for their own or their family’s basic day to day needs

No guidance on what evidence DWP will require in making decision, but just notifying them should be sufficient to start process.

Hi Zoey - there’s some information in this guidance from our resources section which comes from guidance deposited in the House of Commons Library.
