Hi I am tring to help a client claim WTC. Client is an LA Foster Carer ( grandparent ) , she recives fostering allowances for the children. She recives no payment for herself for the Fostering. I am looking for some guidance and aor clarification. Can she claim WTC as a self employed foster carer even though she doesn’t receive any payment for herself ? I have looked on HRMC guidance and its not clear.

Shouldn’t be a problem at all unless children are with her less than 30 hours per week - https://www.gov.uk/hmrc-internal-manuals/tax-credits-manual/tcm0124100
