Running to 51 pages, the guide is aimed at House of Commons select committees and members of Parliament and includes a range of statistics on spending and impacts of welfare reforms on claimants.

Take care to follow Stuart’s link for the 2017 version. If you just google for, say, NAO A Short Guide to the Department for Work and Pensions (as I did today) you’ll probably end up at the 2015 version, which seems to be the top hit on google and the NAO search tool, i.e. the slightly different webpage at http://www.nao.org.uk/report/a-short-guide-to-the-department-for-work-and-pensions

One has to admire the brazen and barefaced cheek of the DWP “Single Departmental Plan for 2015 to 2020”, where it says one of the aims is to “deliver outstanding services to customers and claimants”.

Think you’ve misunderstood “outstanding” there.

It’s “outstanding” in the sense of still not delivering.

Well they can only live and hope.
