Law Centre (NI) launches digital guide for PIP benefit appeals
Includes footage of how to prepare a case and a mock tribunal hearing.
’Law Centre (NI) has today launched a digital guide to help people who are bringing a social security appeal without the support of a representative. Focusing on personal independence payment appeals, the guide gives practical information and advice to help them prepare for what can be a daunting experience by showing what to expect in an appeal hearing.
I thought the video was pretty good, a complement to the ESA one from MOJ:

If anyone is thinking of using it outside NI, then note the video refers throughout to ‘the appeals service’, rather than HMCTS. (There may be some other discrepancies, e.g. it says decisions are normally posted rather than handed down at the hearing, which isn’t the case in England.)
Hi Jon thanks for this. There are some small differences between NI and GB appeals but we hope that this guide will encourage attendance at oral appeals. It is hoped that by seeing the format of the hearing and the types of questions the appellant might expect it will help reduce some of the anxiety in attending. You will also see that the guide highlights the importance of seeking advice and representation if possible. Please feel free to pass the YouTube links onto any of your clients if it is of assistance in preparing them prior to hearing:
