Does anyone know if you can claim ESA whilst on an apprenticeship funded through GIP? My client is on a college course and is to all intents and purposes a full-time student. He is also in receipt of highest rate DLA. He does apparently receive a grant but is not paid by the employer as such. He also has no formal contract of employment.

Can I add supported internships to the equation please? I don’t see how it can be classed as ‘appropriate full-time education’ as it is not a study programme nor a programme of activity to enable the QYP to participate in education or training. The aim seems to be for the employer to offer them work at the end of the internship.
However the combined DWP and DfE document seems to imply it is: http://preparingforadulthood.org.uk/resources/all-resources/supported-internships-and-benefits
Anyone come across these? Many thanks
