Para 1.35 of the budget statement says that the government will put a “cap on the additional costs of up to £25 million per year in the next spending review”  Any idea what this means?

hi chris ... think its £2.5 billion a year ...

‘Budget 2012 announces that there will be a cap on the additional costs of Universal Credit of up to £2.5 billion a year in the next spending review. This is in addition to the £2 billion that was provided in the current spending review for implementation.’

cheers - shawn

what are “additional costs”? is that implementation costs?  on top of benefit spend?

if so, that is a quite outrageous sum, parcelled up in an innocuous statement, to be honest.
