DWP demanding claimants birth certificate or passport

My client has tried to claim PIP, she is age 56, dwp sent her a PIP claim pack but also asking asking her confirm her date of birth by sending either her original birth certificate or passport, she doe snot want to do this but the letter form DWP says her claim may be closed if she does not. not sure what to advise ,my cl is German but says she has indefinite leave to remain in UK

The DWP have always had the ability to ask for further proof of ID etc. I have had them ask people who have never had any connection outside the country for ID, but they do seem to be asking people who have settled status more frequently for additional ID. my client thought it might be a scam but no it’s within normal procedures.

Can’t she ask whether she can take them to local JCP to scan and confirm they’ve seen them?

Given the state of the postal service in general, and the “black hole of Wolverhampton” in particular, I can certainly understand her reluctance to send them originals.

Like Paul, I suggest she gets them scanned at her local jobcentre.
