Unprompted call from DWP - is it a scam?
A colleague has just spoken to a lady who has had an unsolicited call from ‘DWP’ asking if she has considered claiming Pension Credit.
The caller gave her a number to ring back which she tried several times but could not get anyone to pick up.
This has all the hallmarks of a scam but given the push to get more PC claims it might just be legit, has anyone else heard of this?
( I must say that when I heard that ,despite a number of attempts, she could not get through my instinctive response was that it probably was the DWP or am I just too old and jaded?)
It’s a scam Pete, we’ve heard of similar, DWP are not cold calling people to encourage them to claim PC.
The caller gave her a number to ring back which she tried several times but could not get anyone to pick up.
Did she give you the number?
The claim line is 0800 99 1234 so if it was a different number then perhaps there needs to be a report made to whoever it is that investigates these things.
Unfortunately we didn’t get the number, I understand the person did not remember it.
Could potentially be a local council doing take up work maybe?
