Severe Disability Premiums & Pension Credit
Thu 10-May-07 10:56 AM

The Pension Service seem to be giving out inconsistent advice with regards the SDP's and I have now done so much reading I have confused myself!

I appeal to anyone who can possibly clarify this point for me before I go mad!!

A couple, one receives State Pension, High Rate Care and underlying entitlement to CA for looking after wife, the other is not at pension age yet and receives actual payment of CA for looking after husband. No one else lives with them. They can get 2 carers premiums but no SDP's due to the wife getting the payment of CA for her husband, is this correct as the Pension Service have stated they can pay 1 SDP?

I realise they would be better off stopping the wife's CA and getting the couple rate of SDP, but the Pension Service have thrown me with the one SDP for a couple.

I agree with the Pension Service, one SDAA should be included in appropriate amount.

Mr - Lives alone, receives qualifying benefit, but no SDAA/SDP because wife receiving CA for looking after him.
Mrs - Lives alone, receives qualifying benefit and no-one receives CA for looking after her so SDAA/SDP conditions met.

I hope this helps

I agree with the PS.

Could I suggest that you put in an Incapacity claim for the wife and see what happens.
