JSA sanctions and schemes Wed 17-Mar-04 10:33 AM
Is there any reason why someone who is sanctioned for 26 weeks for JSA for losing a job through misconduct should still get paid because they are doing an 'Ambition:IT' course?

I know (through personal experience rather than advising) that sanctions don't apply if you take up New Deal options. I think because otherwise they would have no way to make people take the options. And the 26 weeks of the sanction would continue to run, so that if that is what was happening the sanction might not even apply at the end of the course. Is this a New Deal thing - or a similar scheme ?

It is not new deal as such but one of the eligibility criteria is being a participant on the New Deal so I suppose this might be why his sanction is not being applied. It is delivered by the National Employment Panel who were previously the New Deal Taskforce. Do you know where I'll find the regs on sanction and New Deal?
