PCA medical - unqualified examiner!!!
Thu 14-Jul-05 01:46 PM

My clietn says that she had a PCA medical on the 8th of June at Euston. Client says that the person carrying out the exam said he was not a doctor. He then decided that she scored 0 on the medical and was fit for work.
Has anyone come across this sort of case before.

This is a copy of my post from the 'computerised medical reports' discussion. The plot thickens! (Strokes beard, furrows eyebrows etc)

Here's a bit of a puzzle that I am trying to solve. Any thoughts appreciated.

Saw a client today for an ICB appeal. Client brings in copy of IB85. Client says that she had a bit of trouble understanding the doctor, so therefore she may have given unintended answers to his questions.

When I looked at the doctor's name at the bottom of the page the name did not appear consistent with the doctor's ethnic origin (although it could have been).

I advised the client to contact medical services and confirm the doctor's identity. On doing so my client was told that no doctor from the ethnic origin of the doctor my client said she saw was on duty that day, that the 7 number reference number on the bottom of the IB85 found no matches in their system and that the doctor's name on the IB85 matched a completely different 7 number reference number.

Any further info' the IT system in use would be appreciated.

Paul

the GMC website has a facility where you can check the status of a doctor's registration

see http://www.gmcit-infra.org/rd/reg/

Thanks for your reply, I will lwet you know what happens with this case. Sounds like you have stumbled on a similar occurence to me, albeit in a different form. I reported this to the DWP complaints line (Brendan Mcloughlin), he was quite helpful and has offered to make an enquiry to the Medical centre. initial contact with the centre manager has provided information that a Dr has definitely signed the medical report. We are certain that our client was not aseen by a doctor because he told our client he normally worked in the office. Anyway will keep you posted.
