we can learn a lot from the Highway Code ....
Thu 12-Nov-09 01:19 PM

not benefits, but may be of interest ....

the government has today launched two immigration and asylum-related consultations -

  • under measures in the draft Immigration Bill, the five current application categories available to migrants will be replaced by one concept - 'permission' to be in the UK (see Simplifying Immigration Law); and
  • proposals for a new streamlined asylum support system. (see Reforming asylum support)
nb - in the immigration bill consultation paper, the government says ...

'The Immigration Rules are currently not a statutory instrument – and we think that should remain the case. This gives greater flexibility over their style and drafting .... Other rules exist with a similar legal status. The Highway Code is one example of the flexibility available .... we believe we can learn a lot from the way the Highway Code has been drafted.'

“we believe we can learn a lot from the way the Highway Code has been drafted.”

Yes the new stopping distance for immigrants is at Calais.

The three-point turn will be replaced with an about turn.

Well Mr ………put your seat belt on, check your mirror, make sure the gear is neutral, start your engine, engage gear, press the accelerator and don’t stop until you're in France.

joking apart, the highway code is relied on a lot in PI RTA cases (if you did something that the HC says you shouldn't, and vice versa ...)

so it's not law, but is, if you see what i mean - guidance for safe driving

in the context of immigration rules, somewhat worrying...
