letter in the guardian -

'My firm stopped doing areas of work such as immigration and welfare law because we could not afford to go on doing them. Now you report that the current lord chancellor, Jack Straw, has decided to abolish the Legal Services Commission and hand it over to an executive agency of the government.

One of the positive aspects of the commission has been its willingness to stand up to government ... If Jack Straw rushes through parliament proposals to put legal aid decisions in the hands of government, the Labour party will finally be destroying what is left of the best legal aid system in the world.'
