Development of rightsnet briefcase - Have your say!
Mon 06-Sep-04 04:04 PM

Since November 2003, we've been publishing summaries of every unreported commissioner's decision added to the Social Security and Child Support Commissioners' website, to the briefcase page of rightsnet.

However, whilst we hope that our endeavours have proved useful to you all, we're conscious that the page has many shortcomings in terms of how it functions and its ease of use.

In consequence we've been working on developing the resource from a single page, into an area 'proper', but, before progressing our plans further, we wanted to get your feedback on what you'd like to see.

Our thoughts thus far are that the new briefcase area would –

  • be available from the navigation bar that appears at the top of every page;
  • result in each summary appearing on its own page (and therefore it would be possible to print and email individual summaries);
  • be fully searchable, by benefit, date, reference number etc … and would also offer a free text search of the summary itself – so for example you could search for 'cooking test', or 'failure to disclose' or 'housing benefit regulation 7';
  • mean that we could cross reference newly published summaries with related summaries and older decisions;
  • be updated in order that, on a decision being reported, summaries would display both the unreported and reported reference numbers; and
  • allow users of the site to comment on a summary, or suggest other related decisions.

We're planning to start work on the new area later this month, so ... over to you ... let us know what you think – email us via the rightsnet contact us page.

Thanks in advance, best wishes –

Shawn Mach – Editorial director
