Worker Registration for A8 nationals
Tue 09-Mar-10 01:04 PM

Following hot on the heels of my last post.....

Does anyone know if there are restrictions on the nature of the work that can be registered under WRS? I say this as I have just seen client who has never completed one year under WRS. He is recovering from drug addiction and is currently in a therapeutic community sharing accomodation. The organisation are offerering to employ him for general handywork jobs and will pay £45 pw plus give him free lodging, for a full-time job.

Can this type of work be registered?

Hm. Does the fact matter that prima facie it is paying less than NMW?The current maximum offset for accommodation is £31.57 which makes £76.57 in total - doesn't look very full-time to me.
I can't see anything about the type of work on the Borders Agency website, though they do say that you do not need to register in order to do voluntary work. They mention the NMW though.
Why is the pay so low? Is it a reputable body? Have they ever heard of the NMW?
Since it clearly IS work and he is being paid for it he will hae to register, anyway.

Thanks for that - I will check with the organisation exactly what the deal is and remind them about the NMW. Is it possible to register p/t work?
