Right to reside - problems contacting the Wick office Wed 03-Oct-07 10:32 AM
I would welcome any telephone numbers (or tactics) which would enable me to contact someone at the Wick office to discuss a case urgently.
When I recently called regarding a claimant I was told that he would have to attend at his local Jobcentre and that he would have to call via there instead! No amount of referring to the DWP 'working with customer representatives' guidelines had an impact on the particular official I spoke to. Given that the claimant would need an interpreter and I doubt whether the local Jobcentre would understand the intricacies of the right to reside rules this was clearly not going to happen.
I appreciate that there is a long tradition for making unpopular decisions at remote Scottish locations - be that reprocessing plutonium or basing nuclear submarines - but it would be helpful if needless delays and clearly incorrect decisions which leave people destitute could at least be discussed initially with someone who could influence right to reside decision making. The ability to speak to a knowledgeable person who is at least open to discussion is particularly important in view of the local offices unwillingness to discuss right to reside issues.

Just cut and pasted this from t'internet. How come Caithness Business Index has it but local JCP don't?
Wick Jobcentre Telephone 01955 673200 Postal Address Wick Jobcentre Girnigoe Street Wick Caithness KW1 4HJ
Easy peasy. Just rang them. Switch initially told me they wouldn't discuss it as it was staff only. However she did put me through to the R2R team who rang me straight back once I'd faxed consent through (they gave me fax 01955 673265 for that particular section but it might be the alpha split jobbie).
At least I know the claim has not gone into a black hole after I'd originally been told by local office that Wick were 10 weeks behind. She confirmed it's been with them since 2nd Oct and she said she's now passed it to DM to consider urgently. DM'll decide on the R2R then pass it back to local for actual claim processing.
