Telephone claim for Incapacity related benefits Wed 02-Sep-09 12:34 PM
A client informed me that he made a phone claim for benefit based on his Incapacity for work in April 2008. He was awarded Incapacity Credits as he had not paid enough NI contributions however he never received any Income Support. I wrote to DWP after an unhelpful phone conversation with Glasgow BDC. In response I was informed that he had only ever made a claim for Incapacity Benefit and this is why he was not awarded Income Support.
I was under the impression when you you made a new claim via CMS that they took details to establish entitlement for both IB and IS and if you had not paid enough NI then you would receive IS. Can anyone else confirm this or instead do they ask you which benefit you wish to claim?
