Burial of Client - benefits assistance
Thu 16-Jul-09 01:28 PM

Hi All,

A difficult one here.

I had a Bosnian client was in a concentration camp in Bosnia in the 90's got refugee status here and later became a British citizen.

He has now died but his mother still lives in Bosnia she would like him buried there but they don't have the funds to transport the body to Bosnia. It is going to cost £3000.00 to take the body by van.My client was Muslim and so cremation is not an option.

Is there any benefit help we can get? Any other ideas welcome as well.

Cheers

Stuart

As Bosnia is not in the EU the funeral payments rules don't help - but even if they did they would not pay for transporting the body.
I think your best bet would be to see if you can find a sympathetic charity. Alternatively, it should not be difficult to arrange a Muslim funeral in Britain, and might be easier to bring his mother over. But I can understand this may not be acceptable to her.
