Stolen identities
Tue 16-May-06 02:56 PM

I have been having a bit of a bad day so I thought I'd cheer myself (and maybe others) up by compiling and sharing this to cheer myself up.

On a more serious note the news item itself on rightsnet news page with a link to the piece in the Independent newspaper is worth a visit.

With thanks to The Independent and a nod to Private Eye: -

An internal investigation at the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has found that civil servants are colluding with organised politicians to steal personal identities on “an industrial scale”.

One government figure said: “We have been told that DWP staff have been colluding with organised labour party members to commit identity theft on an industrial scale.”

A minister confirmed that the issue was causing panic in the office of John Hutton, the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions and a key ally of Tony Blair. “It's clear it's pretty serious,” she said.

She went on, “ I had no idea. These people have been masquerading as socialists for years. Now it emerges that these people were not who they said they were. Make no mistake heads will roll for this. It is a very serious matter to defraud the people of this country into voting for an impostor. I will be compiling a report which will be put before a senior member of the establishment whom nobody has ever heard of who will then waffle on at length until we have all forgotten what it was all about in the first place.”

Baroness Thatcher is 176.
