We work with Care Leavers until they are 21, or up to 24 if they are in education. Care leavers are exempt from single room rent rule only until they are 21.So far I have not had anyone who has had their allowance reduced when they reach 21,so assume if they stay in the same property they still get the full rent, but I am wondering if their circumstances change and they have to make a new claim, what will happen? And recently I seem to have had several ex clients contacting me for help as they are unable to find accommodation they can afford.
We have a concern that the more young people we get that go into further education where we are supporting them in student halls etc past 2,1 the bigger the problem we will face when they leave.
Any ideas/thoughts/feelings or solutions would be welcome.
