Income support and Child Maintenance
Thu 19-Aug-04 08:47 AM

My client recieves income support of £55.65 a week and her estranged husbands child support assessment is £666 a month. She has been told that she will only receive £10 of that. Is that true ?? Where does the remaining money go ? The income support and chils maintenance people don't seem to be able to tell me. Help ??!!??

If she gets child support maintenance under the new CSA rules, all except the first £10/wk would be treated as income for IS. Otherwise the full amount would be treated as income. Either way the maintenance will probably take her out of IS entitlement completely (uless she has mortgage interest), so she will just get the £666 per month maintenance paid direct to her.

In short, it goes hurtling straight into the coffers of the treasury.
